COSTS, APPLICATION & REGISTRATION
Our goal is that one day Step Up Development will be able to finance itself through its own income (tourism, tailoring, handycraft, volunteering, etc.) and not be dependent on sponsors. All of our European employees work on a voluntary basis for this project and have been funding this project from their private budget since 2017!
Social work in Tanzania is an intensive way of volunteering and gaining a wide range of experiences. You learn a lot about the problems and challenges of growing up in a developing country under difficult conditions and also that there are no universal solutions to combat poverty.
Maintenance costs are incurred every day and at the end of the month the salaries for our Tanzanian employees are also due. Often there is even not enough money for acute emergencies (food, costs for medical help, …….) We ask for your understanding that we charge program fees. But we try very hard to keep the fees as low as possible, significantly lower than most other aid organizations! With your amounts for the accommodation and the airport transfer, we are able to pay a small part of the costs for the maintenance of the Step Up Development - house, water, electricity, food, watchmen, coal for cooking, etc.

Registration fee: € 200 (the entire registration fee goes to the association as a donation)

Program fee: 180 € / week

All fees include 18% Tanzanian VAT.

Terms of payment: Registration fee immediately after binding registration, total program fee for the complete. Working time up to 4 weeks before arrival at the latest

You work independently in a team & we are at your side as a contact person / problem solver / idea generator etc. during your entire stay.

Flight (from approx. 600 € return flight), travel insurance (from 10 € / month), residence and work visa ($ 250 for up to 3 months), agent fee for business visa 100,000 TZS (1 € approx. 2,500TZS), pocket money

Before you apply, ask yourself the following questions and answer them honestly:
Why do I want to spend some time as a helper at Step Up Development?

Am I independent, well organized, resilient?
Do I have my own momentum, can I find my way in unexpected and unknown situations?
How do I deal with setbacks and frustration? How much time do I need to get off to a positive start again?
How well do I get along with people of different attitudes, ages and backgrounds?
Am I interested in foreign cultures and am I willing to respect their differences from my own?
Requirement for volunteering
Minimum age 20 years, no upper age limit
Duration of stay at least 4 weeks up to a maximum of 6 months
good English language skills
Interest in a respectful exchange on an equal footing
Acceptance of simple living conditions
good physical health and mental resilience
positive attitude
Self-organization, responsibility, motivation, team spirit
Application and registration
Send us your written application including a curriculum vitae, please with a photo and a letter of motivation, office@stepupdevelopment.com.
Please also let us know in your application the desired period and whether you would like to do an internship as part of your volunteer work.
The letter of motivation should above all show what motivates you personally to stay with us.
As soon as we have received the required information from you, we will clarify whether there is a free volunteer place and whether we can use you.
After we have given you a final okay, we would be happy to talk to you personally, by Skype, phone or if our team member Gabi, especially in Vienna, is also happy to be in person.
As the next step, you will receive our “volunteer contract” by email, which you should fill out and sign, send back by post or scanned!
As soon as we have received this you are bindingly registered!
